Hey gang, it’s Hex. I’m looking to get a new feature off the ground here at the mothership, and I could use your help.
The concept is simple: We all know that game “M.F.K” — where you take three names and decide which ones you would marry, fugg, or kill until it’s all the way dead? Why don’t we try that with music?
There’s always new tunes around — and while we do our best to cover it on Tuesdays, the focus there has always been on albums, which the staff makes sure to examine from cover to cover. But what about those singles that are running around — the one-off downloads, the tracks that you end up taking home from the club on CDs with sharpie handwriting on them, or just that song you heard somewhere and had to find out what it was?
Are these flash in the pan hits that you want to just rip off your clothes and get all slinky with right now? Is it the kind of musical trend that marks the impending doom of society as we know it? Or do you want to take this song to meet your parents and then pick out china patterns with it because you’re sure you’ll be listening to it forever?

Here’s where I need your help though — I can’t listen to every song out there, and you guys already know if you leave it up to me long enough I’ll just start posting 15-minute prog-metal jams. So if there’s a track you heard and you kinda like it, or you seriously love it, or you absolutely HATE IT — find a YouTube link to it email me the link and I’ll do my best to post it up here.

Then we’ll let the OHN family have at it in the comments.
We’ll start things off easy with three tracks that have been buzzing in and out of my headphones a lot this past week, either because people have been urging me to hear them or because Spotify’s algorithms think I’ll like them based on everything else I listen to. I actually really dig one of these tracks, but I’m fairly undecided about the other two.
Your part is simple. Listen to the three tracks, and then in the comments tell me which one you’d marry, which one you’d fugg, and which one you’d kill.
Static Revenger/Richard Vission ft. Luciana — “I Like That”
M83 — Midnight City
Kreayshawn — Go Hard
Let’s see what you think.

Just off the still Kreayshawn has to die…but I'll listen.
I'm not above offering up sacrificial lambs, my friend.
In order of videos listed:
Kill (WTF– tooooooooooooo anoying)
Marry (M83 fan large here)
Fugg (if I was crunky at home doing the "too old for the club" dance yes…)
Help me see the light for M83 — I can recognize that they're talented, but I was only able to get through about half of their disc before I zoned out and got mad at it.
What makes you a large fan of theirs?
I like the 70s-era Progressive groups (Asia, Yes, Alan Parsons), so to me M83 is the next wave in that genre (as it were). I've also Adult ADD ( judge!) so I don't listen to ANYTHING for an entire album… what I've heard of M83 I adore
I can see what you're getting at.
I love 70's prog rock too — but I'm more towards the dark side of the equation (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis). My feeling is that I would be over the moon for M83 if I hadn't already heard Foster the People first — but that in the end the two are pretty much the same thing.
I first started checking them out because I liked the vibe, but the album as a whole began to sound like one long track. Perhaps they're better in doses?
"I first started checking them out because I liked the vibe, but the album as a whole began to sound like one long track. Perhaps they're better in doses?"
Exactly….
Funny about the Gabriel Genesis; that's prolly one phase of them I really didn't care for…
I was also thinking that M83 has a lot of Art of Noise about them—another group that's great for a few songs but not a steady diet…
Love me some Art of Noise. See, this is why we're friends
[youtube zdb0mfp6TQE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdb0mfp6TQE youtube]
(not my favorite song by them, but fun just the same).
Nooooooo! My ears!
Since I only get three choices –
M83 gotsta die…jeezum crow! All of a sudden, I was back in college, surrounded by skinny white kids wearing Nitzer Ebb shirts.
Kreayshawn is cute in that "probly dates a black dude way"…
But LUCIANA could skrait GET IT, NO QUESTIONS.
That's the game, my friend.
I'm with you on the M83. This is the brand of indie rock that I'm rapidly getting the most sick of. It's full of interesting noises, but it flat out never goes anywhere and then suddenly 3 minutes later it's all slide whistles and ukuleles making me want to mosh the first hipster I see. (K)
I've loved Luciana since I first tripped across her stuff on Myspace. It's crazy europop, but I can't help but get into it. (M)
This is the second Kreayshawn song that I felt like I should really hate, but sorta got pulled into anyways. There's something just sort of stupidly catchy about the vibe of that song, but I'm pretty sure I'll get BEYOND sick of it in a week or so. (F)
for me:
marry M83-sounds a lot like 80's syn pop. Its an era of which I discovered shortwave radio and the world of music and what it had to offer.
Fugg- Kreayshawn- I found myself nodding my head to the rhythmic beats…
Kill Luiana-to me sounded like a at in heat DJM.
Honestly to be impartial-i didn't look at the videos- just started them up and minimized the screen and used headphones. I wanted to experience it raw no filter or visuals so to speak
I got John Hughes '80s movie-era synth pop out of M83 too, but I actually like that song, so it gets my Marry.
I can't stand Kreayshawn (which I originally thought was her faux-ghetto way of spelling creation), but she'd get my Fugg just because the song has a catchy beat…still, I'm over it already.
Luiana…no thanks. Not today, or tomorrow, or even on a drunk weekend. Kill.
no
no
no
forget the MFK
just
no
no
no
lol
but I do like the idea Hex
You gotta pick. That's the game.
can I kill them all?
Read the rules, woman!
Wait, are you the person who plays checkers or chess and leaves your fingertip on the piece until the veerrrrrry last second so you can change your mind based off your opponents reaction? The person who puts a time limit on connect four turns and then takes two turns if the person doesn't move quick enough?
No ghost runners — Choose!
somebody got told……
I know!!
I liked it
*runs*
…… ugh. just ugh…. gone somewhere.
Great idea, Hex, but they all gotta die!
Email me some things you'd like better for next week — but you gotta choose too, girl
M: Kreayshawn
F: Static
K: M83
Dammit they all suck lol. Most white hood girls that Ive ever met seem bored
And yet you're still calling M on the Kreayshawn? I'm starting to think it's a kinda-likeable track, despite the artist who recorded it.
Because at least I can dance to most of the beats of her songs. In HS (louisiana) I was bombarded with Boosie, twerk music, juvenile, and the like. I easily learned to ignore most lyrics hahaha
M. Static because is reminds me of "I Know What Boys Like" by the Waitresses.
F. M83-I can't dissociate that song from Victoria's Secret commercial. That's what you do when you see Victoria's Secret.
K. Kreatshawn-The song and video sounds and looks like I'm playing Parappa the Rappa on the original PlayStation.
Lmao — That's probably the best description I've heard of it, especially when they add those big animated gloves.
Oh my.
Lucinanna – F*ck it – I find it annoying but not to the point I want to kill it. And since I watched all if it… I find that positive.
M83 – F*ck it – Up thread someone mention the early 80's style of music… and that is exactly what it reminds me of too. And I had a great time in high school…. listening to this obviously annoying style music.
Kreayshawn – KILL – Paris Hilton could have done this track. But her video would have never looked this good.
Unfortunately, I did not find anyone to marry this time. But I am pretty positive the music industry is not trying to get my dollars with this stuff. I am simply too old to understand it. So I don't feel cheated.
But if Art of Noise had been a contender. I would sooo marry it!
Oh, I read this wrong, I thought I could just kill Nickleback and be done with it.
Marry – Static
Kill – M83 (I was bored – reminded me of 80s generic synth-pop)
Fugg – Kreayshawn (or however u spell her name); she's that one-nighter you have & never tell anyone about…EVER.
This is a great idea, btw. Please do a lot more.
F.: Static Revenger/Richard Vission ft. Luciana — “I Like That” . . . cuz it's a quick, quirky lil throwaway eurotechtronica song that I can eff with temporarily
M.: M83 — Midnight City . . . cuz it's a much more substantive electronica tune that I eff w/ even more (admittedly cuz Lupe Fiasco used the instrumental on "Friend of the People", and I really enjoyed that "mixtape".)
K.: Kreayshawn — Go Hard . . . F&@k Kreayshawn and everything she stands for.
"I LIKE THAT." *smoke pellets*
all three were dreadful but since i have to choose, here goes…
