2012 BET Hip Hop Awards – The Cyphers

The only reason to watch The BET Hip Hop Awards is the cyphers.

Honestly, I wasn’t as impressed this year as I was in years past.

You be the judge

Ruff Ryders

West Coast

The Raw

True School

Iron Mic

Grand Hustle

The Warm Up Vol 1

The Warm Up Vol 2

The Youngster

The rest of the performances were whack! But the show ended with tribute to Chris Lighty that was really nice.

Apparently it is Beth's Job to get on Slaus's nerves.

  1. I agree Slaus… most of them couldn't move a crowd with a M-16.

  2. ToodySaysHey says:

Imma use this thread to speak on something that is off topic, but that has been on my mind lately….

…Am I the only one who 90% of the time doesnt know what @#$%^ Ghost Face Killah is talking about in his lyrics?

I mean seriously, much as I loved the album Supreme Clientele, half the time its straight up word salad with that guy.

    Am I wrong?

  3. I'm glad you posted it here, because I was NOT going to suffer through another year of the Flip Flop awards…

This awards show is as bad as watching the Superbowl for the commercials…

  4. for the past few years BET has posted the cyphers online before the show airs…the hip hop awards are not live for good reason…

but this year the show wasn't bad even though most of the performances were by acts I consider to be whack as hell…

  5. double_dizze says:

The EBT hip-hop awards show was beneath lackluster…but let's talk about the REAL star of the show…the one, the only MAYBACH O!!! Dude was dancing with the hunger of a rookie, like his dinner that night depended on it. It probably did, seeing as how Bawse Ross likes to eat, but anyway….

  6. I can't see the videos *sadface*…but if Em or Busta aren't on them, I'm not too upset about it.

  7. cakes_and_pies says:

Why does BET insist on using auto-play for their clips :0(
It sounds like I walked into Lee's Fashion, Wigs, and Auto Speaker Mart on a Friday afternoon.

  8. I was really only feeling Ruff Ryders (I'm feeling nostalgic), Iron Mic was ok and so was True School. Meh.

  9. I love Talib Kweli. He got up there, shaded BET and murked, everyone else at the same time

  10. Was it just me, or did anyone else realize that the captions they were showing during Sarkodi's cypher was actually what he was saying? *hangs head*

And did Talib Kweli diss EBT, and the used Frank Ocean and Chik-Fil-A in the same sentence? *KILT*

  11. It's official. I am fvcking old. I didn't watch the EBT awards nor do I know what a cypher is…nor do I care. All I want is some good music by talented artists who perform on stage without flashing me their man boobs.

  12. WHAT THE HELL IS A CYPHER

    • Tracy… LOL

Anything cyclical. If your freestyling, you rap in a cypher (one after the other). Interrupting another man will break that cypher (unless he's next in line and the dude behind him is falling off). The same concept applies to burning; there is a set order to who hits next (pass it to the left my friends). Never break the damn cipher

  13. How wack is this 'Mook' please… I think even I have done better. Let that sink in.

  14. Loved Talib, buuut my favorite would be the West Coast cypher. Just because they're… them.

  15. I cried over recycling babies and having white people problems (I can relate).
