Five Simi Valley, California sex offenders are suing the city over limits to their Halloween activities.
Their lawyer, Janice Bellucci, is head of the group California Reform Sex Offender Laws.
Last Friday, Bellucci filed a lawsuit in federal court claiming that Simi Valley’s law violates her clients’ First Amendment rights, reports NBC Los Angeles.
The law bans registered sex offenders from displaying Halloween decorations, answering the door to trick-or-treaters or having outside lighting after dark on Oct. 31. They are also required to post signs with on their front doors reading: “No candy or treats at this residence.”
Bellucci told NBC Los Angeles: “We consider that to be a violation of the U.S. Constitution. It’s similar to Jews in Nazi Germany who had to wear the yellow star on their clothing.” ( uh… it’s nothing like Jews in nazi germany as Jews in nazi germany were being penalized for no other reason than being Jewish…..whereas these people are being penalized for trying to offer up penis and Reese’s Pieces to underage kids!)
Simi Valley councilman and LAPD officer Mike Judge told NBC Los Angeles: “This law was generated by citizens asking the City Council to do something. And it didn’t seem unreasonable for the City Council to take it up.”
“As far as I’m concerned, our law doesn’t go as far as other laws in the state of California and it still, in our opinion, protects our children a little bit better than not having it.” [source]

Seems like claiming solidarity with Jewish victims of Nazi Germany is hot-to-trot amongst the knuckle-headed at the moment. Just the other day (and yes, this is serious), the ex-leader of our Church of England claimed that the government’s proposals to support a law for gay marriage, whereby people like him were called bigots for opposing it on spurious (ie. non-existent) religious grounds, made him – the bigot, remember – a bit like the Jews in Nazi Germany.

There is no comparison here and their lawyer is an idiot for playing the Nazi card. *eyeroll* I'm going to play devil's advocate here (and start a shyt storm, I'm sure) but the one thing that bugs me about this story is: what crimes were these 5 guilty of?
Why am I asking? Because in the state of CA, you have to register as a sex offender if you're convicted of things like: indecent exposure (this includes streaking), sexual battery (touching breasts, butts or crotches without permission), prostitution (Not mandatory, but a judge can order it), solicitation (not mandatory but a judge can order it), or statutory rape (including consensual sex if you were 18 and he/she was 16), as well as child molestation, sexting with a minor, rape (of children or adults) or child pornography. (and maybe after November, child sex trafficking)
Now all of that being said: if they were convicted of crimes against children then yes, I support the Simi Valley law. Absofrickenlutely.
