SSC: Give me your tired and your poor, …yearning to breathe free?

That’s the message beacon that America sends out to the world. To those in a Mexican ghetto, that beacon is as bright as a Walmart sign on the hill about 1200 yards away. Just calling to those who are tired, poor, yearning to breathe free. Guaranteed low prices to match. Seriously… Mexicans in boarder towns can see that gawt d@mned sign while huddled in their makeshift shacks at night.

Folk isn’t going to spend much time discussing the lunacy of history, specifically the preposterous notion that invaders of this continent was preordained under the heavens and the almighty “God” to occupy this land. They referred to this ideology as the Manifest Destiny and used this idiom to declare war with Mexico and “acquire” Oregon from the Brits to further the spread of democracy! Pay no attention to the slaves or the death toll of Native Americans or Mexicans as they went about fulfilling this so-called “destiny.”

But let’s address the issue with Americans that dislike the influx of illegal immigrants, specifically Mexicans, into America. First let’s get a fact straight. Regardless of what the media and the pundits on the tele would have you to believe, more illegal immigrants enter the country legally through work visas and education visas and forget to leave at the designated time, than those that trek across the desert to simply walk around non-continuous silly fences.

With that lil’fact check taken care of, Folk has a question. What has most Americans done to “earn” or “deserve” their citizenship other than being dropped from the pu$$y of a current citizen? Especially many of the bigots that decry those who are “destroying their country.”

Sure there are those that serve who rightfully have earned the badge of American citizenship. There are those who transform our society and are active social contributors. But a vast population group have done ZERO to earn the freedoms they spit upon. Yet, illegal immigrants who work hard 12-18 hours a day to pave our roads, build our houses, construct our infrastructure, clean our buildings and homes, and alter the landscape to our liking for a fraction of the cost are dehumanized and hunted like pigs because of our collective insecurities.

Yes, collectively we have accepted the inhumane treatment of classes of people in this country. Animals. Like Rats. Just because they do not “appear” American.

What da fvck is “appearing American” anyway? What does an American look like? Does Folk not look American? Shyt Folk was born in this byotch in the belly of the south! God Fvcking Bless America!

Is not America a nation of peoples from varying ethnic backgrounds? English, Polish, Italian, French, German, Russian, Swedish, Austrian, Israeli, and Norwegian are not the only fvckers up in this byotch! Right?

Fvcking d@mned straight Folk Right!

America is a fvcking DNA pot luck stew. Some DNA pieces were intentionally put in the pot, others forcibly included mysteriously by drunk azz Uncle Sam that always seem to show up at these fvcking “American” get-togethers and sneaking a lil som’n som’n in the fvcking pot while no one is looking. Crazy bastard! What you doing behind the port-a-potty Unc with cousin Lolita? ¿Estás haciendo algo extraño con Lolita no es así? ¿Vas a fvck y tener algunos bebés más variados hijo de puta vieja.

Are not these immigrants tired, poor, homeless, yearning to breath free? Are they not worthy to bathe in the waters of democracy? To be given an opportunity to pursue their dreams and happiness? Are they not part of the decree that is “self evident” that “…All men (people) are created equal”?

Is illegal immigration an issue? Sure. We should put about a process to ensure that “all” peoples have an opportunity to become American citizens efficiently and effectively without the aid of a lawyer and regardless of what land they arrive from. Innocent people lives who have not broken any laws should not be pawns in a political game of nations or quick sound bites for self serving political ads.

No person within these boarders should ever be afraid of being singled out and asked for their “papers” or “governmental identification” for their “appearance.” And Folk is appalled that in this land of the “free” that individuals would be singled out in the 21st century because of appearance, just because “some” people happen to be afraid of those who don’t look like them.

Yes there are some bad people out there. And yes there are some people who want to slip in and do us collective harm? But how can we fear these few when internally our yearly homicide rates take the lives of more Americans than any terrorist act has ever taken? Are not these American citizens that die at the hands of other Americans any less deserving of protection than those who fear death at the hands of a terrorist? But Folk digress.

We must stop criticizing the struggles of others because the spices in their food is unlike that of our own. Unfairly labeling the situation a form of protection from our selfish fears and insecurities.

This is America! The country destined by “The Almighty” to provide democracy to its people and provide an example to the world (so they proclaimed once before). This is a nation where Lady Liberty should be able to stand gallantly declaring boastfully without pause or legal disclaimer, “Dame tus cansados??, tus pobres, Su hacinadas multitudes anhelantes de respirar en libertad…

And no byotch! You cannot see Folk’s Passport or driver’s license! That’s all Folk got to say this fvcking Sunday!

This "illegal" in the abc video is more of a patriot than I'll ever be.

The whole issue of "illegal immigration" to me is just another case of good old fashioned racism masked as patriotism. My mother in law was called out in the grocery store because her english isnt the best. Another customer sighed and muttered some nasty things to her. But to their dismay, she isnt illegal. She married a serviceman in the 80's and came here very legally. She raised two children as a military spouse and they both are currently serving this country. She is just as American as the "Peggy Sue" military spouse we get bombarded with-shamefully she gets none of the respect. I would hear some of the arguments of the "get out this country brigade" if this wasn't an issue she dealt with almost annually.

    Damn me for my memory….

Anyway, a superb post, Mr Folk. I've long thought this whole "illegal immigration" talk to me merely a diversionary tactic used by those in power when things are going badly for them, or when they're trying to whip up support for something, or when they're simply looking for someone to blame. And it works because many people have a weak spot, and that weak spot is to look at people coming to their (usually) richer, (usually) more peaceful, (usually) more stable country – people who are, for whatever reason, and from whatever backdrop – looking for a better life – to look at people like these people as pariahs, as leeches, as scum.

Nah, I don't have that. It's nonsense, it's jingoism, it's racism, it's nationalism, it's xenophobia – all often trying to masquerade as something a bit more palatable. Usually that something is wrapped up in nothing but euphemism and shallow rhetoric. It's all just bollocks.
