Republican Gov. Christie praised President Obama and doesn’t give a DAMN about Presidential politics right now.

The New Jersey governor even took his message to Fox News, saying that Obama had helped “tremendously.”

“I spoke to the president three times yesterday,” he explained. “He called me for the last time at midnight last night asking what he could do. I said, if you can expedite designating New Jersey as a major disaster area that that would help us to get federal money and resources in here as quickly as possible to help clean up the damage here.”

“The president was great last night,” Christie continued. “He said he would get it done. At 2 a.m., I got a call from FEMA to answer a couple of final questions and then he signed the declaration this morning. So I have to give the president great credit. He’s been on the phone with me three times in the last 24 hours. He’s been very attentive, and anything that I’ve asked for, he’s gotten to me. So, I thank the president publicly for that. He’s done — as far as I’m concerned — a great job for New Jersey.”

Fox News co-host Steve Doocy wondered when Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was going to get some of the same benefits from the hurricane with a photo op in disaster-stricken New Jersey towns.

“Over the last couple of months, you have appeared throughout the country, Governor, on behalf of Mitt Romney,” Doocy remarked to Christie. “[W]e hear that perhaps Mr. Romney may do some storm-related events. Is there any possibility that Gov. Romney may go to New Jersey to tour some of the damage with you?”

“I have no idea, nor am I the least bit concerned or interested,” Christie replied, immediately shutting down the idea. “I’ve got a job to do here in New Jersey that’s much bigger than presidential politics and I could [sic] care less about any of that stuff.”

“I have a job to do,” he added. “I’ve got 2.4 million people out of power, I’ve got devastation on the shore, I’ve got floods in the northern part of my state. If you think right now I give a damn about presidential politics then you don’t know me.” [source]

I don’t know anything about Governor Christie other than the few times I’ve heard him speak, even o issues i didn’t agree with him on, he speaks openly and honestly and literally and figuratively couldn’t give a damn and a dime about whether or not you liked it or not. :: shrugs :: so.. i’ve got nothing bad to say about that guy on that.

I really DO have to respect the way he kicked partisan politics to the side and decided to be a man instead of a Republican man and let it be know that he has a REAL job to do right now… damn being pulled into partisan politics from either side. Hell… he COULD have minimized the roll President Obama played in helping out New Jersery in order to help out his party, which i am sure he is being cursed out about right now. He COULD have played politics. But he didn’t.

I’ve got nothing but respect for him as a human being, for that one.  I’ve got plenty of times to call this man every name under the book when it comes to politics, but as far as trying to take care of his people right now and being REAL? I’ve got nothing but  a handshake and respect for the guy..

  1. My favorite cereal is LIFE and Gov. Christie served me a bowl this morning. Kudos to him for keeping his eye on what's important right now. And please newscasters, no one gives a single damn about the campaign trail, election, politics as usual or any of the other minutiae today…give it a rest, folks will still vote come election day.

It makes up for the shade and the shyt Christie was talking about Obama during the convention.

  3. Just like the President Governor Christie is doing his job…he doesn't really need all the "praise" for doing his job. His job is to take care of NJ and he's doing just that.

Besides he's not stupid…he knows if he runs again for governor rumors are Mayor Booker might run against him and well Mayor Booker is a super hero in many people's eyes (including people outside of his city)….

  4. originalwharris says:

Yeah – don't give him too much praise. He only did that because he messed up with this:

    • But in the press conference where he made those remarks he praised Obama for the first phone call.. What was Christie making up for then?

There was a devastating hurricane and you're asking about a photo-op? Benefits?!?! Mayne, if you don't sitcho Faux News azz down…

  6. I am not a fan of Christie, but I am impressed with his stepping up and not flinching when bad shyt happens and for his honesty in this matter.

  7. Christie is setting up his bid for 2016. He has a disaster that he can use to posture himself like Gulliani did in 2008. Not saying he's not sincere. But he IS a politician.

  8. ToodySaysHey says:

Please dont let my house be mold infested from the flooding

    sigh

    …christie is still fat though…

  10. Ive wanted Christie to run for president for 8 years now. I don't agree with everything he believes in but I agree with enough, and I love his bluntness and convictions. Damn… Give the guy some credit guys. It really doesn't matter what he would have said does it? Some of ya'll are gonna throw shade on him regardless. Makes me shake my head.

    • IAmTmonie says:

I give him his credit. I give credit where it's due. However, dude is a politician. Just like the president is a politician. The President's quick response has A LOT to do with him making sure that this does not become his Katrina. I'm not saying either man is a bad person. But they are well aware how this benefits them politically.

      • I agree with you… But you know as a governor Christie is gonna get interviewed. Dude basically told Doocy to STFU. If you're PLAYIN politics as a Republican you do NOT do that to Doocy. What could he have possibly done or said ad a governor of a destroyed state that would spare him from being accused of playing politics? What I saw was the LEAST playing of politics possible.

      • I have no idea why my phone randomly capitalizes letters to make me sound all aggressive.

    • why do we have to give "credit" for doing his job?

its not like he went above and beyond

it's not like he's out there saving women from burning buildings or going around shoveling 15 inches of snow or something

he's doing what he's supposed to be doing running his damn state and making sure everyone is safe

    • Tracie/Bramblefae says:

Amen, Tracy. I run way more to the left than to the right, and I don't agree with a lot of Christie's politics, but the one thing I've always liked about the dude is what seems like a low-bullshyt tolerance. He seems way more "real person" than most conservative politicians do, to me, and that's refreshing as hell. Honestly, I wasn't all that surprised to see Christie praise the POTUS because he's not shy about his opinions.

    • OHNCantTakeIt says:

I can give him credit for this, and for his method of bald-faced honesty and not backing down from his decisions or his opinions. However, as a resident of New Jersey for thirty-six years I can tell you firsthand that he is KILLING that state. Our credit rating has gone down, the schools are floundering because he's been determined to put funds into charter schools instead of public schools(don't even get me started on how he refused to take the federal grant money for the schools, then got snippy when he realized that he needed that damn money), funding for the poor and disenfranchised has been near to eliminated in order to plug the holes he opened up with tax cuts for the rich…….

Public libraries would have lost near to 75% of their funding if we hadn't protested in Trenton—and he STILL closed down the state library for the Deaf and Blind. And pensions? He wants the state pensions so badly that people I know are thinking of retiring just so they can keep the bulk of money they EARNED.

Just like Massachusetts was happy to see the back of Romney, believe me when I tell you that New Jerseyans will be overjoyed to see the last of Governor Christie.

      • ToodySaysHey says:

PLEEEEEEASE say it louder for those in the cheap seats.

If Tracy actually lived in NJ, her opinion would be hella different.

Not to mention him slashing budgets, and turning around and handing that money
to corporations on top of giving them tax breaks and then setting up his bodies with cushy govt jobs with incomes north of 150k.

    • ToodySaysHey says:

Spoken like someone who doesnt live in NJ

  11. I run waaaaaaay more to the left than I used used to on certain things… Mainly women's rights and gay rights, but fiscally and militarily I guess ill always be classified as a republican. I don't care WHO it is though…. Not being an a$$hat to opposing political figures is, sadly, an awesome and rare thing to happen in this day and age. Of course during this tragedy everything that comes out of any politician's mouth is going to be examined and researched for motives instead of just STFU and let the damn people do their job, or use their name to hold donation rallies… Or to just tell people to help. PLAYING POLITICS! PANDERING! KISSING A$$ TO LOOK LIKE HE CARES!

It's a bunch of bullshyt. Just f*cking help, or appreciate that others are helping and stop being d*cks to each other FOR JUST A WHILE.

    • Take a breath Tracy. I think you're bringing a lot more anger into this thread than it warrants.

      Breathe girl. Breeaaaatheeee.

      • GURL I am on a field trip with 200 little shyt heads and teachers that don't know shyt about organization! I'm FROGGY!

Seriously I didn't mean to come off as bitchy… This is about the 6th time in the past 2 days I've been in these discussions except yesterday I had to flippin defend Obama from crazy f*ckin Christians so I been all over the map and I'm going crazy.

  12. It's ok. I got into an 'Obama is a Muslum Romney is a Christian' conversation last night with some rural White folks from SC. I don't think my blood pressure can handle the election or its aftermath, whatever it may be.

    • UGHHHHHH it's them extreme close minded focusin on. Everything but the issues acting like fools people that turn all this into such a hateful process!

  13. I'm all late and shyt because well…a bish been with out power since part of Sunday when it was off for about an hour and fully since Monday (I'm is currently posting from work because well…I have no power or cell service lol). I don't agree with Christie on a lot of things but I can tell you that with this disaster, he is doing what he can do to get us running. And for that I like him. Now, if that bish would give me my job back that he took away when he came into office, I'd be even fugging better lol.
