Open Thread – What OHN moments are you most thankful for!

As those of us here in the States prepare to sit back for a day of reflection, fun, family, friends, relaxing and or reflection, It’s hard not to look back on the year thus far – or life in general, and think upon what you are thankful for.

Me, I’m personally thankful that each and every one of you take time out of your day to come here and enjoy yourselves at OHN. Something we laugh, sometimes we fight and sometimes we cry…..sometimes we get lucky and we get to see boobies, but all in all, many of us have come here and grown so much this year. Hell, we’ve helped each other a lot! Many of you have made big life changes like walking down the aisle and others of you have gotten the courage to leave relationships which weren’t as healthy as they should be. Some of you have been blessed with new members to your family and still others of us have suffered with the tragic loss of losing loved ones. Hell, many of you helped me out more than you will ever know when I lost my father to cancer at the beginning of 2012- which was but three years after I had just lost my mother. You gave me pep talks, many of you let me vent and bawl like a baby and others of you just helped in ways YOU might have thought were insignificant but were HUGE to me!

Man we have been through MUCH in 2012 and I think we have all become stronger for it.

For that I am extremely thankful!

Hell, I’m also thankful as all hell that a few of you convinced me to stop being unnecessarily bourgeois when it came to looking for a pet and instead discovered the awesomeness of animal shelters where my family and I found our newest member; Ms Pinky-PieSlaus.

With all of it’s ups and downs that we have endured individually and as a group, I want to sincerely thank you all for everything!

So from me, to you, and from the entire OHN staff, Thank you and may you have a happy Thanksgiving.

Awww, man…remember that time we had the two intertwined Men's Group posts that went horribly wrong and the the entire blog went up in flames, then Slaus was like, "Man, fuck this, I'm selling this whole shit and going back to working a regular job!"

    Ahhhhh, good times.

I'm thankful to Dlisted for introducing me to this place. I think MichaelK linked to something posted here, and that was it. Sold.

I'm thankful that I finally got up enough nerve to start commenting, because y'all are pretty awesome.

Now I need to get off my azz and finish cleaning so I can start cooking pies and deviled eggs and stuff. I'm such a slacker. Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I'm thankful for a lot of things.
-Being rid of the "house" which became an albatross and a constant reminder of how the banking & R/E industry totally screwed the middle class.
-For the shorter commute, down from 100 miles/day to only 50, if that.
-For my family. Each and every one of them knotty-head cretins.
-For finally forgiving my sister for all the mean, awful things she did to me in our childhood and well into our adult lives. For telling her so. For accepting her as she is and loving her the all the same.
-For being >< this close to being able to forgive the person who molested me as a child because then, I WILL TRULY BE FREE.
-For being in love with someone who is truly my friend and having him stateside which means penisontheregular.
-For the recent debates with Slaus. Going toe to toe with an extremely intelligent and equally logical individual forces me to think things through…even though I still get emotional. *shrugs* You ARE that brother that I never had who makes me want to sock the shyiat out of him and hug him all at the same time. Ugh. IH8U.
-For good physical and mental health.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

I have six minutes to write this so leggo.

I am thankful I found this place so long ago. When I found this site I had no idea what I was in for. I have learned so much about myself, others, the world, politics, and many other things my narrow minded ass never had any interest in learning about.

I have gone through so many changes since first joining this site and only a handful of you truly understand to what extend those changes really are.

I absolutely credit this place (along with many other factors) for the broadening of my thought process. "Facts and examples" has become a staple in my vocabulary and honestly, because of OHN, I don't post shat (on facebook, email, blogs, etc) without fact checking that ish.

So I'm thankful to all of you – because of you, and because of this place, my children have a much greater chance at becoming even better human beings than I am. They have a shot at looking at this world and all it's beauty, all it's ugly, and everything in between and taking things for what they are. Because thanks to OHN and the discussions I've had, and the friends I have made, I have learned to accept the world for what it is, rather than sugar coat it to make it easier to swallow. And when you accept the world for what it is, it's much easier to navigate!

My 6 minutes are up, I am on my way out.

    Peace, love, and turkey y'all.

Thank you Slaus. I love you. I'm back on my meds and much much better. I left my job and found a better one.

Thank you FSU Duane. You don't even know what you did, but you made a difference in my life.

Those in Aintshytshire across the pond, you have no idea.

To the rest, thanks for being you. You are my mirror. I see who I am when I look at all of you. I've grown much and I have all of you to thank for it.

    God bless you all.

I'm thankful for finally having the will and the courage to take a chance and leap where I would never hav thought to leap before – and for it to work out beyond my wildest dreams.

For the support of all of you crazies during the madness and the happiness – no matter how much we fight I still love y'all stankin azzes.

For my family, my husband and my twin(or my twin and my husband), and all of the friends that I've never met in person but couldn't, thanks to OHN, do without.

I'm thankful to have found such internet fuggery on the regular with which to cheer me uppeth.

  18. says

What i'm thankful for on the personal level is my kids are doing wonderfully, and I have survived an extremely stressful year with my mind intact (for the most part).

I am definitely thankful to the staff of OHN for the work they have done to keep producing the awesomeness of this site. I know that it is a labor of love for all of you that goes far beyond the intellectual repartee and social analysis. Yes it's love, but its also definitely labor… greatly appreciated labor.

I have so many moments here than I'm thankful for, from saying that crazy man Jesse James looks like me in 10 years (still funny) this year, to "They look like the Broadway production of Hot Buttered D*ck" from back in the day. And of course I'm thankful for the people who have moved cyber-friends to just friends. I love my digital OHN family.
